UTMB: Ready for lift off

20120825-162035.jpg

Last year at this time, I was a nervous wreck, waiting in fear for the Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc UTMB to set off in a weeks time. This year I’m ready to go and can’t wait. I know how much last year hurt, and I’m more prepared; not fitter, not lighter, just wiser! As the famous Dr Seuss quote goes “Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind”. I’m going to be who I am, and run how I feel.

Therein lies the difference from last year where I stupidly felt pressured to set off quick, and I rushed the first two big descents, picking up an injury. Not this time. I’ll set off slower, and ease back on the descents, and look after my tenons and quads better. Anyone who wants to overtake, be my guest. Last year took 45 long hours. Hopefully I can trim a good bit off that by reducing the toll it takes on my body. Run slow, run wise.

So that’s the strategy. Let’s see how the plan fits to the race. Hat off to Dr Seuss!

Me. Watching with a little bit of regret this year that I am not on it again, anyway, Good luck and have fun I will be watching your progress closely.

May the force be with you.

P.s try to keep all your bits of body where they should be this year.
